Back to Work

The time has finally come to go back to work.  It has been an incredible 5 months home with Reid.  I was so fortunate enough to have that much time off...the perks of being a teacher.  It just started hitting me this past weekend that I am actually going back to work.  It definitely makes me sad because we have had so much fun just doing what we want to do when we want to do it.  There is a small part of me that is ready to get back in the classroom.  I might not be saying this in a month or so when I am bringing papers home to grade.  I just keep telling myself "only three days a week!"  I am so blessed to be able to do a split contract this year.  I will be teaching Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and my good friend will teach Thursday and Friday.  Everything worked out perfectly!  Not only that, I don't have to take Reid to daycare.  My mom will watch him on Monday's and Kevin will be able to watch him Tuesday's and Wednesday's.  Since I have to go back to work, this definitely is the ideal situation and I feel so fortunate.

These are some of the things I am going to miss when I go back to work...tear =(

5 Months

Reid is growing up so fast and seems to be doing something new every week.  Here are some videos and pictures that capture what we have been up to.  These past 5 months have been so wonderful with our little guy!

Daddy's Little Rookie!

Reid usually takes a 2 to 2.5 hour afternoon nap so I have had some time to rearrange some things in the house.  I was in need of updating some pictures, so we had our personal photo session in our backyard.

Thursday mornings Kev goes to the Herd (Men's Ministry at Saddelback Church) and if Reid wakes up early he watches cartoons with Mommy in bed, this morning he passed out and took over the bed!

Solid Foods

After Reid had his 4 month doctors appointment we got the go ahead for feeding him solid foods.  He has done awesome thus far.  He loves his rice cereal with apples, all veggies, bananas, and apples.  It seems as though he is more of a veggies kid than fruits, which is fine with me.

I thought if I opened my mouth he might mimic me ;)

9 to 5

The day Reid turned 3 months he started sleeping through the night.  The first night he did this I woke up because I heard him startling, thinking it was the usual 1:00am feeding, NOPE it was 4:00am.

On a side note, I would recommend the Digital/Camera Monitor for any new moms.  It is pricey, but well worth it.  When I hear Reid startling I can look on the camera instead of running into his room everytime.  Almost everytime he puts himself back to sleep and saves me the anxiety of wondering what is going on.

I didn't get too excited knowing that this could be a sporadic thing.  Then night after night I would put him down at around 8:30pm and he wouldn't wake up until 5:00ish.  We even took a weekend trip to the desert and he slept great as well.  We are going on three weeks now and he is doing awesome!  This makes for some VERY HAPPY parents.   At bedtime, before he started sleeping through the night, we were giving him his pacifier and turning on his ocean show.   That was challenging because we constantly had to go in his room to get his pacifier and turn on his show again.  I stopped giving him his pacifier at night because he started putting himself to sleep (woohoo!).  Now we have a routine at night...bath, pjs, and bottle.  He knows it's bedtime and puts himself to sleep fairly quickly.  I am hoping this continues especially when I go back to work in September.  Now we are working on Reid putting himself to sleep during naps and sleeping longer in his crib during the day.  It breaks my heart to hear him cry/scream, but I know it is for the better in the end.

So 9:00pm to 5:00am it is for now....he usually goes back to sleep after I feed him at 5:00am and wakes up around 8:00am.  The greatest thing, that melts my heart every morning, is when I get Reid at 8:00am and he has the BIGGEST SMILE on his face...precious!!

4th of July

It was a great 4th of July!  We headed back from the desert after a nice and HOT weekend, made it to the gym to take my favorite RIPPED class (they were celebrating their 3rd Anniversary of starting the class), and ended the night at my sister's house.  We had a wonderful time swimming and bouncing in the bounce house (they surprised all of us with renting it).  I bounced so much I was a little sore the next day.  Thanks Rapp's for such a fun time!  I was really excited for Reid to see the fireworks because I knew he would love them.  This is the second year we have watched the fireworks from the Renaissance Club Sport parking structure in Aliso and you can see ALL of the shows going off.  This location was perfect for Reid because it is not loud at all.  Well....he passed out before the shows started and slept through the whole entire thing.  I guess we will have to wait until next year.

Got my 4th of July shirt on and ready to start celebrating!

One happy boy!
